Series 100 - ThermoElectric Gas Condenser

Description

The Model 100 condenser is specially designed for stack (CEMS) and process gas sample conditioning. It is capable of handling the most demanding sampling situations. Industrial grade components are used for reliability. It removes moisture from the sample gas (dew point at 36oF, 2oC) without interfering with its composition. This ensures measurement accuracy as well as protection of gas analysis & sample handling equipment against contamination and damage. Additionally, since sample dew point is maintained at a constant low level, interference to monitoring data due to moisture content variations is eliminated.

To ensure product quality and reliability, each condenser is individually tested and subjected to a min. 120 hr. burn-in period.

Operating Principle

Gas sample can be transported by pressure or vacuum through our proprietary Teflon coated impingers. The sample is pre-cooled to ambient temperature by fan driven high velocity air. It is then chilled by a bank of solid-state thermoelectric elements (vortex air, chilled water, and other cooling method optional). Intelligent microprocessor circuitry maintains the output gas dew point at 36oF (2oC) and prevents freezing.

A switched electrical power supply outlet is provided for external sampling pump control. The outlet is energised only when the condenser has reached the operating temperature. Over or under temperature alarm will be displayed on the front panel. With an optional condensate carry-over detector, the sampling pump will be automatically stopped if moisture is detected. This ensures only fully conditioned dry sample gas will be delivered to the monitoring equipment.

The heat exchanger is designed to induce a special aerodynamic flow pattern that results in rapid moisture drop-out from sample gas. Contact between sample and condensate, if any, is minimal. All sample wetted parts are Teflon coated. Condensed moisture is removed immediately by a peristaltic pump. Extra moisture slip protection is available at the outlet to guard against any possible carry-over. These design features ensure effective moisture removal, sample composition integrity and representativeness. For NO, O2, CO, CO2, there is no detectable loss. For even the highly hydrophillic gases, such as SO2 & NO2, typical loss is less than 5%. Equipment performance exceeds all requirements specified by US EPA 40CFR60.

Features

Highest Cooling Capacity

Stack gas can have temperature well above 212oF (100oC) with moisture content up to 40% by volume. The gas can be very wet downstream of a scrubber. That is, gas sample is essentially a mixture of hot gases and steam, possibly laden with liquid droplets. The Model 100 Condenser has more than adequate cooling capacity to handle such gas mixtures.

Sample gas with temperature up to 752oF (400oC) and moisture content close to 100% can be conditioned. That is, the condenser is capable of handling even wet steam. Total cooling capacity (air pre-cool and thermoelectric chilling) exceeds 3,800 BTU/hr (4,000 KJ/hr). This is the highest rate available without the use of an external chiller unit. With such high cooling capacity, complete moisture removal is guaranteed. The condenser ensures protection of gas analyzers and supporting equipment against contamination and damages.

The condenser design is optimised for heat removal efficiency, low power consumption and minimum heat generation. The heat exchanger uses metal to metal contact for maximum heat transfer. It has high thermal efficiency and is virtually maintenance free. No messy liquid cooling media to leak.

Cooling is by environmental friendly air & solid-state thermoelectric elements (other methods optional). No compressor or Freon is used. Heat load generated by the condenser is low. This is particularly important when it is mounted inside a cabinet with heat sensitive equipment.
