Series 110 - Self-Cleaning Sampling Probe

Description

The sampling probe is designed to extract representative gas sample for stationary continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) and process gas monitoring. It consists of a probe, a heated filter and an electrical module. The equipment removes particulate and evaporates any liquid mist before forwarding the gas sample to the sampling line. Depending on the application, automatic blow-back can be used for probe cleaning. This design ensures sample integrity and protects the monitoring system against contamination and corrosion.

Applications

The sampling probe meets all compliance monitoring requirements prescribed by US EPA Code of Federal Regulations for CEMS (40CFR60 & 40CFR75) as well as other relevant codes and standards. It can be used for sampling process gases and air emission sources, such as : power boilers, recovery boilers, incinerators, fluidized bed combustors, cement kilns, refineries, petrochemical processing facilities, drying or roasting kilns, scrubber exhaust, and others.

Self-Cleaning Function

An automatic blow-back facility can be utilized for probe cleaning. At a selected time interval, instrument air (steam optional) is discharged to blast the particulate and condensate back into the stack. Blow-back duration and frequency are user adjustable. The blowback operation can be activated by the built-in controller, or triggered by external control (such as AEM Model 120 Automatic Air Monitoring Controller, PLC, etc.). This feature ensures reliable extended continuous operation and minimizes maintenance.

Probe

Temperature and chemical resistant material are used to ensure that there is no sample loss. Depending on the application, the probe can be heated or cooled as required (optional).

Rodding Port

During normal operation, the probe can be clean using self-cleaning blow-back. To remove any build-up after extended operation, the probe can be easily cleaned by running a rod down the probe.

Heated Filter

The filter is housed in a weather-proof case which is mounted on the sampling port. It uses an oversize re-usable filter cartridge for removing fine particulate down to 1 um. The cartridge can be easily removed for maintenance. The element can be cleaned by reverse-blowing air or steam. The over-sized filter also serves as a drop out and evaporation chamber for any liquid mist present. It is heated to a temperature above typical acid boiling point (e.g. HCl, H2SO4 , etc.). With a large particulate collection volume and filtering surface, it allows for extended operation before maintenance is required.

Calibration Gas Inlet

A calibration gas inlet is provided upstream of the heated filter. This is an essential tool for complete system calibration and performance evaluation. Calibration gas standards can be introduced into the system near the sampling point. The calibration gas is exposed to the same flow path and conditioning as the sample gas. Any leak, contamination or problems in the sampling path can be identified.

Electrical Module

The module houses the temperature and blow-back control electronics. Connection strips are provided for easy electrical and blow-back status signal connections. The module is designed for outdoor applications and is weather-proof.
